About :

Sanken is a leading provider of HVAC, commercial, residential, and industrial plumbing solutions. Sanken develops new environmental technologies which harmonizes with nature – air, water, and sunlight, resulting in a comfortable and eco-friendly environment for customers and for society as a whole. They provide a broad range of building management services that balance customer comfort with energy savings and improved environments.

Goal :

Sanken has implemented an advanced thermal comfort system at a low-energy building in Singapore and was collecting data locally. Localized, and detailed indoor environmental data related to noise, light, temperature, humidity, and air quality was to be combined with the energy data from the Sanken system and this integrated solution be made available on the cloud. This would a create a holistic 360o view of the site and the combined data was to be utilized to improve the environment and support industrial innovation. In addition to collecting the real time data, there was a need for an attractive visualization and data analytics dashboard as well as enabling this data to be sent to the Sanken corporate databases located in Japan.

Role of SenSING : SenSING provided a complete real time Indoor Environmental Quality Solution (IEQ) including Data Collection and Monitoring of Temperature, Humidity, Light, Noise, TVOC and CO2. With its open API, seamless platform based on its “Any Device, Any Datastream, Any Cloud” paradigm, SenSING also seamlessly integrated the Sanken energy and system operational data from its building management system (BMS).

Approach: SenSING provided IEQ sensor devices and its attractive software solution to provide a comprehensive, single pane view with real-time visualization and analytics dashboard with an integrated view of the IEQ data but also the energy related and system operational data from the Sanken BMS. In addition, with using APIS developed by SenSING, the platform was able to also provide real time data transfer to the Sanken corporate team located in Japan.

Value and Impact There was good value in the SenSING platform analytics especially since it integrated BMS (energy) data. The positive impact was that Sanken was able to correlate the IEQ and comfort with energy use by studying different energy savings strategies using its BMS. This will allow for the development of optimal energy strategies for implementation at customer sites.

“This is the first project of Sanken in Singapore, focusing on balancing occupant comfort while reducing building energy consumption, thereby resulting in a large, beneficial impact on the environment. For those perspectives, a dashboard that can visualize the indoor thermal comfort, air qualities, energy consumption and operating conditions of the HVAC system, is valuable for building owners, facility managers and occupants. SenSING proposed a n integrated cloud-based dashboard and it’s exactly what we were looking for.” – Ippei Izuhara, Senior Manager, Sanken.

The good points are that SenSING has their own sensors for the indoor thermal comfort and air quality. We can get more detail for the indoor environment and relate it to the energy consumption, all visualized on a single dashboard. The SenSING dashboard and analytics perfectly meets our needs and beyond our expectations. The hurdles were how to remotely send Sanken BMS data to the SenSING cloud server, but finally our engineers and SenSING engineers found the solution to make it happen.

Summary : The solution from SenSING enabled a comprehensive view of the IEQ as well as energy and operational state of the air-conditioning system. The ability to view the status of the indoor space and also enabling users to store and analyze the data for various purposes was an added was also attractive to Sanken. Now, Sanken is working with SenSING to develop a new dashboard for the Japan market. We expect to make contributions to reduce the impact on the global climate change by using our technical solutions together.
